903-How to Create a Strong and Sustainable Treasury Department 

 

 

Moderator: Carol DeNale, Senior Vice President & Corporate Treasurer, CVS Caremark 
In the 13 years since Carol DeNale joined CVS Caremark, she has been at the financial forefront of the company’s phenomenal growth. Ms DeNale, who is Senior Vice President and Corporate Treasurer, directs and oversees the company’s capital structure, financing, investments, risk management, environmental and safety, cash management, capital expenditure, balance sheet forecast, and leasing functions. Ms DeNale played the primary role in arranging and securing the financing for the company’s acquisitions of the Southern Eckerd stores, the 700 Osco and Sav-on drugstores and Longs Drug Stores, giving CVS/pharmacy immediate market leadership in the fast-growing Florida, Texas, and California markets and boosting its share in key Midwest markets. Additionally, Ms DeNale played the primary role in arranging the financing, and structuring CVS Caremark’s capital structure as part of the merger of CVS and Caremark.

Ms DeNale is a member of The Conference Board, the Association of Financial Professionals (AFP) and the Treasury Management Association of New England (TMANE) as well as the Past President of the TMANE. Additionally, she has spoken at the Capital Markets Summit hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce, Suffolk University, the AFP’s annual conference, and TMANE’s annual conference.

Ms. DeNale joined CVS Caremark in June 1997. Prior to joining CVS Caremark, she had been with Waban Inc., the parent company for BJ’s Wholesale Club for over 8 years.

Michael Gallanis, CTP, CPA, Partner, Treasury Strategies, Inc.
As a Partner of Treasury Strategies Inc., Michael Gallanis leads the firm’s Corporate Practice Area, providing consulting support to organizations in both the public and private sectors. His work with these entities includes overall treasury management reviews, cash forecasting development and implementation, bank consolidations, collection system reviews, treasury technology reviews, bank cost analyses and bank selection processes.

Mr. Gallanis has over 22 years experience in treasury and consulting. Prior to his joining Treasury Strategies, Mr. Gallanis held senior treasury roles in four different industries. Mr. Gallanis received his M.B.A. from Roosevelt University following a B.S. from Eastern Illinois University. He is a Certified Treasury Professional and a Certified Public Accountant.

Craig Jeffery, Managing Director, Strategic Treasurer, LLC
Craig Jeffery is founder and Managing Partner of Strategic Treasurer, LLC, a treasury consulting firm in the Atlanta , GA , area. With nearly 25 years of financial and treasury experience as a practitioner and consultant, he enables his clients to craft realistic goals and achieve significant benefits.  Prior to founding Strategic Treasurer, he was SVP and Practice Leader for Wachovia Treasury & Financial Consulting; VP at SunTrust Bank; and worked in the Information Management, Investment, and Treasury Divisions at The Hartford.  

Craig is the author of The Strategic Treasurer: A Partnership for Corporate Growth (© 2009, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., Hoboken ). He is often quoted in, and has written articles for, finance and treasury management publications such as Treasury & Risk, Financial Executive, and Business Finance.  

Craig received a BS in accounting from the University of Connecticut . He is a permanent Certified Cash Manager, an Accredited ACH Professional, and a Fellow of the Life Management Institute with distinction.

David O'Brien, Consultant, EE Treasury, Inc.
David O’Brien is a consultant in Treasury with expertise in global cash management, forecasting, investments, debt, foreign exchange and working capital management. Most recently David was Assistant Treasurer at EDS Corp, a $22 bn IT Company with operations in 73 countries. While at EDS his team was responsible for global cash management, foreign exchange and working capital. Prior to EDS David had similar responsibilities as Director of Treasury at Fidelity Investments and Assistant Treasurer at Holiday Inns.

He is a frequent speaker at events sponsored by AFP, Association of Corporate Treasurers and EURO Finance. David is a past Chairman of the AFP and serves on the associations’ Conference Committee.

He holds a BA from University of Richmond, an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University and the CTP certification from the AFP.
