TMANE is a professional association of over
300 treasury managers and treasury service providers in New England.
Our goal
is twofold:
To keep our members current and to provide training we:
We are governed by a Board of Directors, with a President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. The Board and Officers are volunteers to TMANE. They are treasury professionals, and bankers who provide services and consultation to treasury professionals.
TMANE History
The association had its beginnings in the
late 1970's, when a group of individuals decided to organize an association
of cash management practitioners (similar to a New York City association already
in existence) that would be headquartered in the Boston area. The Cash Management
Association of New England, CMANE, was formally incorporated in 1981. The group
of individuals, led by William E. Donoghue (The Cash Manager Newsletter), included:
Ray Cioci (FNB Boston), Ellen Hurley (EG&G), Jerry Jussaume, (Idle Wild
Foods), Richard Kelly, (then Assistant Treasurer, Commonwealth of Massachusetts),
Robert Mayer (Coopers Lybrand), and Fred Williams (ITT Sheraton).
In the very beginning, as an incentive to grow the organization, a subscription to Donoghue's Newsletter included the dues for membership in CMANE. Also before incorporation, bankers and vendors were not allowed to be members since it was felt that they might use CMANE for marketing their products and services (however, this fear was quickly proved unfounded). In November 1981, Bill Donoghue was offered, and accepted, honorary lifetime membership in CMANE. In 1994, the Cash Management Association of New England became the Treasury Management Association to reflect the broadened responsibilities which cash managers had assumed.
Membership has grown such that TMANE is now the largest regional treasury management association in the country, with membership in excess of 300. Membership in TMANE has always been a bargain; in 1980 dues were $45. Since then dues have been increased only 4 times: in 1982 up $5 to $50.00, in 1985 an increase of $25 to $75.00, in 1987 another $25 increase to $100.00, and in 2002 a $25 increase to $125.
CMANE's first conference was Info Expo 82 held in Hartford, Connecticut on September 15, 1982. In 1985, the association made a major commitment to providing a premier educational forum for its members and other treasury professionals by organizing the first Sources of Education conference. In order to provide an opportunity for treasury professionals of all levels of expertise to benefit, the conference length was increased to provide two full days of courses, at the basic, intermediate and advanced levels, spread over a three day period. This format allowed sufficient time for eight educational sessions as well as plenty of opportunity for attendees to interact with each other. The first Sources of Education conference was held June 1986. Since then, the conference has been held annually in Boston and attendance has increased to over 800 treasury professionals.
