This discussion will consist of a look back (what did we know—or thought we knew—before the recession), a current look at the national economy with some regional content, and an examination of the housing sector and some international developments.

Frederick S. Breimyer joined the FDIC as the New England Regional Economist in 2003. His background includes serving as Chief Economist for State Street Corporation (1984-2003), Financial Economist for the First National Bank of Boston (1976-1982), and Staff Economist for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (1970-1976).

He has an extensive record of serving on economic advisory committees and in leadership positions on both the regional and national levels. Currently, he is serving on the boards of the New England Economic Partnership and the Mass Insight Education and Research Institute. He also is a member of the Board of Economic Advisors of the Associated Industries of Massachusetts and a member of the Executive Committee of the Boston Economic Club. He serves, too, the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Data Users Advisory Committee.

He holds a PhD in Economics from Northwestern University. He is married to Adele Langevin and has three grown children.
